So, you wanna sing, eh?

Abyssion is a metal band. We value energy, groove, and precision. We're also heavy as sin, but we know when to pull back and create moments of calm. Think thrash with more technical leanings and a pinch of atmosphere. If that sounds like the type of project you'd be interested in, read on.

Abyssion live

You might be a good fit if...

  • You sing, but also catapult your being from the nether by breathing dragonfire through MONSTER gutterals!

  • Pitchiness is anathema to you, but technical precision doesn't trump all. Raw delivery, feel and emotion matter to yoy. Sometimes more.

  • You love THRASH. Bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Testament.

  • But you also like your PROG. Think stuff like Dream Theater, Opeth and Porcupine Tree.

  • You're established with an existing career (we're not looking to be career musicians 😢).

  • You're in your late 20s or older.

  • You're able and willing to rehearse weekly and gig monthly.

Ready to apply? Here's what what you'll need

  • A demo of existing material: a link and a short description.

  • A brief description of your vocal style.

  • A brief description of your past experience.

The audition process

  • Step one: This step. We'll get back to you if we think you're a good fit.

  • Step two: Record a verse + chorus (about 1 minute is all you need) of your own take on one of our songs. Write your own lyrics.

  • Step three: Come out for an in-person audition of that song, preferably more fleshed out, plus another song of ours or a few song options you'd like to do as a cover. We'll do our best to learn one.

A little more about us

We're four dedicated metal heads whom rehearse at The Farm Rehearsal space in Markham. We have a ton of fun and goof around! But we also take our music and the time we put into it seriously. So much of what we do is about celebrating the music we love and the joy in the craft of creating it. That in itself has to be it's own reward; it's not like playing metal is going to make us any serious money! Though that would be nice.

The four of us also have fully established, independent careers outside of Abyssion. We want to write a lot, we want to gig a lot, and we want to tour. That means we balance our lives with Abyssion in mind. So while it's not the main thing, it is a main thing.

We expect anyone joining this band to be at a similar point in life, with their own independent life, career and family obligations, but also with the deep desire to sing in pretty feakin' cool metal band (we think!) and the resources and willingness to do so.

If that sounds like a compelling project we want to hear from you!
